COURSE OVERVIEW


BTEC Sport Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure

This course is designed to introduce learners to the world of sport and leisure. The vocational aspects of this programme allow learners to acquire a deeper understanding of their chosen specialism and progression onto one of our Level 2 programmes. The BTEC Level 1 course is a suitable option for anyone who has not yet achieved any formal qualifications.

Sessions will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons and wherever possible underpinning theory will also be demonstrated in a practical context. Assessment combines observed practical assessments, written reports, case studies, presentations and work booklets.

You will also have opportunities to gain further qualifications, which complement your course including the Fundamental Movements Course and the FA Level 1.

As part of the course, learners will be involved in a number of exciting external visits which include an overnight residential, trip outdoor adventurous activities, Anfield stadium tour and Liverpool FC Academy. It is the college philosophy that learners should be exposed to specialists from the Sport and Active Leisure industry on a regular basis, as a result guest speakers are often present in class to enhance the learning experience.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Four GCSEs at grade D or above, one being in English or Maths(Level 3), or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent) at pass level.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

On completion, you may choose to work in a variety of sports environments and industries or progress on to the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Sport.

COURSE OVERVIEW


NVQ LEVEL 2 ACTIVITY IN LEADERSHIP

Aimed at those wishing to pursue a career in sport and recreation, outdoors, in sports development, or at an assistant instructor level, this qualification provides excellent foundations for progressing directly into the workplace or on to the BTEC Level Subsidiary Diploma.

The course consists of practical work and theory-based units, which include:

  • - Preparing a Session
  • - Leading a Session
  • - Concluding and Reviewing a Session
  • - Contributing to Work in a Team
  • - Promoting Safety in Sport
  • - Working with other Organisations
  • - Encouraging Participation in Sport

The practical work includes coaching in local colleges and schools, as well as at out-of-school clubs and leisure centres. On top of coaching, you will complete a work placement within the Sport and Active Leisure Industry. The course is continually assessed, with the final assessment being based on portfolio work and practical observations.

FEATURES/BENEFITS

Throughout your studies, you will have the opportunity to complete extra qualifications in first aid and sports leadership. There are also a range of trips and team-building activities included throughout the course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

4 GCSE Grade D, which must be in English Language or Maths (Level 3)..

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

All learners on the course will be challenged to progress to one of our Level 3 Sport Courses. These are the BTEC L3 Subsidiary Diploma Sport and the BTEC L3 90 Credit Diploma Sport. Both these courses are 1 year in duration and learners can "top-up" in Year 2 of Level 3 to complete with A Level equivalent qualifications.

This stimulating and challenging vocational course is for students who intend to study for a degree or follow a career in Sport and Recreation. This course can be taken as an equivalent to two or three AS subjects over a 2 year period.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

4 grades A* - C at GCSE including English or Maths (Level 4) or equivalent qualifications (a Merit or higher at BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the 4 A* - C GCSEs).

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

All learners on the course will be challenged to progress to Year 2 of the programme where learners can top-up to the BTEC National Diploma in Sport, which is the equivalent of two A-Levels.

UCAS EQUIVALENCE

Grades achieved at the end of the course can be converted to UCAS points for university. A Pass is equivalent to 16 UCAS points, A Merit is equal to 32 UCAS points, A Distinction is equal to 48 UCAS points and a Distinction* is equal to 56 UCAS points.

BTEC National Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in Sport

The BTEC Level 3 90-Credit Diploma Sport is a 1 year full-time course for learners wanting to progress into a sport-related career or Higher Education. The Course is designed to reflect both practical and theoretical aspects of sport across a range of disciplines.

Successful completion of the BTEC National Subsidiary Diploma in Year 1 of study achieving a Merit grade or higher.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Learners can progress to a Foundation Degree programme or a Full Honours Degree programme or into employment.

UCAS EQUIVALENCE

Grades achieved at the end of the course can be converted to UCAS points for university. A PP grade is equivalent to 80 UCAS points, A MM grade is equal to 160 UCAS points, A DD grade is equal to 240 UCAS points and a D*D* is equal to 280 UCAS points.

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Many of our BTEC Sport Extended Diploma Students go on to university to study a range of Sport related courses such as; Sport Science, Sport Therapy, Sports Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Sport Studies, Sports Leadership, Teaching qualifications and many more Learners can progress to a Foundation Degree programme or a Full Honours Degree programme or into employment.
